Australia’s Road Authority NTRO, Adopts XenomatiX 6D Road Scanning
The National Transport Research Organization of Australia (NTRO), previously ARRB, a public organization with decades of experience in pavement inspection, has selected XenomatiX for its innovative road scanning solution on their new Network Service Vehicle. NTRO has chosen to adopt XenomatiX’ 6D road scanning technology, signalling a shift towards the latest area scanner technology.

To implement this, NTRO has deployed a new rooftop unit equipped with multiple cameras and the XenoTrack 6D road scanning system.

Early indications show that the advantages of this new approach versus the old traditional methods are substantial.
Among the key benefits of the XenoTrack system are its compact size and transportability, making it adaptable for use across different states and even international operations. Its solid-state lidar technology, provides a highly accurate 3D pavement surface model, allowing NTRO to extract precise geometrical measurements.
The system seamlessly integrates with NTRO’s existing sensors via SDK/API, which allows smooth workflows. Data collected is accurately georeferenced in global coordinates, with built-in vehicle movement compensation for precise results, even during driving. Both 3D and 2D raw data are merged, enabling comprehensive analysis.
Certified by NCAT, iCART, and compliant with AASHTO R56 standards, the XenoTrack system supports both accuracy and repeatability. It covers a wide range of road condition measures—including IRI, rutting, MPD, cracks, potholes, and PCI—using a single platform. Data collection can occur at speeds up to 90 km/h, including stop-and-go operations, and can be managed by a single operator through a simple tablet interface. Additional features like event logging, distance-triggered data collection, and rapid processing further enhance operational efficiency. But above all, the system offers significant cost savings, up to fivefold compared to traditional methods or equipments.
For NTRO, the move to XenomatiX represents a strategic modernization of their road inspection capabilities. The authority gains greater precision, faster operations, and the flexibility to scale inspections across different regions.XenomatiX is proud of the confidence NTRO has placed in its solutions and admires the authority’s commitment to adopting innovative technologies.
