Quality Inventory of 1,442KM bike lanes

Objective:
AWV required a quality assessment of 1,442 km of bike lanes across its network.

Xenomatix submitted, won, and executed this project from start to finish using the XenoTrack road lidar system. During data collection the system was mounted on a custom-built, multi-functional vehicle (MFV). XenomatiX processed the data to create 3D digital models with all the relevant quality indicators, and delivered both raw and processed data in AWV’s required format, along with analysis reports.

Methodology

  • The MFV digitized lanes in 3D geometric and intensity models
  • High definition 2D images were captured every 5 meters during data collection
  • All data was accurately georeferenced and formatted for automatic integration into AWV’ platform
  • Quality indices (EC0.5-EC2.5) were automatically calculated and delivered for analysis.

Results

  • Enabled objective comparisons of network quality from 2020 to 2024
  • Provided an intuitive 3D visualization of quality factors
  • Supported evidence to enhance bike routes

Multiple follow-up projects have been executed for AWV, including road quality assessments and acceptance testing of new roads or pavement layers.
